Cookie Control Premium is a consent management platform (CMP). It displays a consent banner to your visitors and blocks third-party scripts from running until the appropriate consent is given.
Setup takes three steps:
- Scan your site to discover what cookies and scripts are active.
- Use the wizard to configure your banner.
- Paste a single script tag onto your page.
After that all future updates to your configuration are delivered automatically — the script tag never changes.
Cookie Control Premium requires no JavaScript configuration object. Unlike version 9, your entire setup lives in your account and is loaded via your API key — there is nothing to maintain in your codebase.
The starting point is your domain. Add your site URL in your user area(opens in a new window) and run an automated cookie scan. The scanner identifies all cookies, third-party scripts and iframes active on your pages and uses the results to pre-populate your configuration.
Running the scan first means the wizard can suggest the right consent categories for what is actually on your site, rather than asking you to configure things in the abstract.
You can re-run the scan at any time. When new or changed cookies are detected, your configuration and cookie policy are updated automatically.
Once the scan is complete, the configuration wizard opens with the results pre-loaded. It walks you through the following steps:
- Set your regulatory requirements
- Select the regulations applicable to your site and audience, such as GDPR or CCPA. This determines the consent model and the behaviour of the banner.
- Customise the banner
- Adjust the appearance of your consent banner to match your site's look and feel. A live preview updates as you make changes.
- Review cookie categorisation
- The wizard groups the cookies and scripts found during the scan into suggested consent categories — analytics, marketing, preferences, and so on. Review the suggestions and adjust any categorisations that need changing.
- Enable third-party integrations
- Turn on built-in support for common services such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, and Microsoft Clarity. Enabled integrations are automatically blocked until the relevant consent category is accepted.
- Customise language and region
- Select the language for your banner text and cookie policy. Multiple languages can be configured if your site serves more than one region.
You do not need to edit the configuration to deploy. If the wizard output looks correct, you can go straight to Step 3.
Copy the generated script tag from your user area and add it to your website. In order to have the highest chance of intercepting and blocking tracking scripts, we recommend this be added at the start of the site's <head> section.
<script src="https://cc.cdn.civiccomputing.com/10/CookieControl-v10.x.min.js?id=?YOUR_API_KEY"></script>
Your API key in the URL identifies your account and loads your saved configuration. This is the only time you need to touch your code — all future configuration changes are delivered automatically.
CMS installation
If your site runs on a CMS, you can add the script through one of our CMS plugins rather than editing HTML directly. The configuration wizard includes step-by-step installation guidance for common platforms including WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla.
Blocking specific scripts
Third-party scripts can be managed via the wizard or directly in your site&aps;s source code - depending on what you find more convenient. For instance, to associate a script with the analytics category and allow it to execute only after consent has been granted to this category, use the following data attributes attributes:
<script src="https://.../tracker.js" data-cmp-category="analytics"></script>
See the API Reference for full details on data attributes and the onConsentChange event API.
Cookie Control Premium is designed to stay current without requiring manual intervention. After the initial deployment, the following happens automatically:
- Periodic rescans
- Your site is scanned on a regular schedule. If new or changed cookies are detected, you are notified and a suggested configuration update is prepared.
- Configuration updates without redeployment
- Because your configuration is loaded from the CDN via your API key, any changes you accept or make within the user area are live immediately. There is no need to update your script tag or redeploy your site.
- Saved state per domain
- The final state of your configuration — whether it came from the wizard, a rescan update, or manual edits — is always saved against your domain. When you next log in, you pick up exactly where you left off.
You can also trigger a rescan manually at any time from your account area, for example after launching new pages or adding new third-party tools to your site.
